Revising History
-
Ppl are forced to stay loyal and if not they are eliminated from history. They believe false info and if that info is violent they may believe it and become violent themselves.
-
Propaganda
Textbooks praise Stalin and portray him as a great leader despite being a brutal dictator. Portrayed as father figure and savior. Collapse of Soviet Union was a "tragedy"
Young kids minds are shaped to believe Stalin is a good person and didn't do anything wrong; they don't get the other side of the story. Single story means your life is based on lies and you could internalize their lies and won't be able to make decisions and you will have a lot of implicit bias.

Cult of Personality
NK Station #1: Kids see Kim Jong-un as a god-like figure; they received food from the gov but not from their parents who couldn't afford it. More loyal to gov than families.
The families are "separated" because the kids show more love to the gov than their parents. This will be passed down to their kids. They'll continue to believe this their whole lives the leader will stay in power because the kids will never rebel.
connects to indoctrination; being in awe of Stalin's strength, etc.
Censorship
Some person who was working on the farm for 7 years never received grain from gov and when he complained, they arrested him for speaking out and said he was anti-Communist

Common Enemy
Russian TV displays Europe + America as bad. These countries are out to GET Russians and they are not good places to live
It gives wrong info about other countries. The problem is that Russian citizens don't know the TRUTH about other countries or their own. If they don't the truth, they are TRICKED into loving their country and can only rely on their country for safety and their needs. This suggests that if they have no knowledge of the outside world they are less likely to rebel.
