The Histories of Herodotus (completed 429BC), the first history book, records an experiment from Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Psammetichus I to determine if humans have an inborn capacity for speech and the language it is in. Two infants were raised remotely and Shepherd forbidden to speak. After 2 years they spoke, most often saying 'becos' which is Phrygian for bread. Concluded it was inborn with Phrygian.
