Nutritional Assessment - Coggle Diagram

- - - - (Weight Loss OR Low BMI OR Muscle Loss) AND (Assimilation Loss OR Lower intake OR Inflamm/DIsease)
    - - Starvation related malnutrition
      - Chronic Disease related malnutrition
      - Acute disease related malnutrition
  - - - A: No weight loss, normal intake, no/minimal GI symptoms, Normal functional status, Normal Subcutaneous fat
      - B: 5-10% decrese weight loss, Decrease oral intake, moderate Gi symtposm, Moderate functional deficit, Mild to moderate fat and muscle loss
      - C: >10% weight loss in past 6 months, severe decrease in oral intake, Prominent GI symptoms, Severe functional deficit, major fat loss and muscle
    - - Energy Balance: Daily Caloric Requirement = Total Energy Expenditure
      - TEE = Resting Energy Expenditure + stress-related energy expenditure + Thermic effect of feeding
      - In Adults, as BMI decreases, more lean body mass increase TEE
- - - - Indicated if feeding via gut is contraindicated, or if feeding via gut cannot meet nutritional demands
      - Compounded sterile solutions including macronutrients, electrolytes, minerals, vitamins
      - Can be used with oral and enteral nutrition
      - Safe and equally as effective as enteral nutrition
    - - Indicated if unable to tolerate oral nutrition, and no contraindications to enteral feeding, via NG or NJ tube
      - Permanent feeding via G tube, G-J tube
      - Can be either intermittent or continuous
    - - Most common: Ensure/Boost protein, or specialized diets
  - - - Can lead to refeeding syndrome which can be fatal
        
        Monitor K, Mg, PO4, glucose, and volume status
        
        Start low and go slow
