These rights encompassed both civil and political rights as well as economic, social, and cultural rights. However, they were designed to address the specific needs of particular groups, including women, children, individuals with disabilities, and indigenous populations. These groups are either inherently vulnerable, such as disabled individuals and children, or they have been rendered vulnerable due to a history of discrimination and marginalization, as is the case with women and indigenous communities.
Additionally, starting in the 1970s, certain "collective rights" were established. These include the right to peace, the right to development, and the right to a clean and sustainable environment.
