Where in the world or in a country a person lives can affect their life events, such as starting and ending a full-time education or finding a permanent job. For example, in Northern Ireland, compulsory schooling begins at age 4. In England, Scotland and Wales, it begins at age 5. In Romania and India, it starts at age 6 (see Eurydice (2013), Carvalho (2010)), and in Bulgaria (Poland), Sweden and Sweden it starts at age 7. The age at which a person can drop out of school varies from country to country. For instance, in Bangladesh, compulsory schooling ends at the age of 10 (Unicef no date), in India it starts at age 14, and in Scotland it starts at age 16.
