Land
Germany lost all of their overseas empire
German colonies became controlled by the League of Nations (predecessor to the United Nations)
League delegated responsibility to its members, so effectively Britain and France controlled it
Lost 13% of territory
Lost 12% of its population
Lost 48% of its iron ore
15% of its coal
Lost 15% of its agricultural production
Military
Army limited to 100k men (previously stood at 1.9m)
Conscription banned
Not allowed any armoured vehicles, submarines or aircraft
Navy could only have 6 battleships (used to have 36)
Rhineland became a demilitarised zone (this means German soldiers cannot guard the border with France)
Money (reparations)
Reparations mostly paid to France and Belgium
Exact amount of £6.6 agreed upon in 1921 (£174 billion today)
If the terms weren't changed Germany would have still been paying this off in 1984
Annual reparations were 7% of Germany's national income
Blame
Germany was forced to accept blame for starting the war which humiliated them
"The allied governments affirm and Germany accepts the responsibility of Germany and her allies for causing all the loss and damage to which the Allied Governments and their nationals have been subjected to as a consequence of the war that was imposed upon them by the aggression of Germany and her allies
By accepting blame and responsibility they were also agreeing to pay reparations
