Organic
Carboxylic acids.
-
Carboxylic acids react with carbonates to produce carbon dioxide. they can be used to test for a carboxylic acids.
Esterfication
Carboxylic acids will react with alcohols. When this occurs , they form esters.
-
Esterification does not have a mechanism but it is important to note that a carboxylic acid + an ester produces an ester.

Esters
Use of esters
esters can be used in plasticisers , solvents (ethyl ethanoate , perfumes , food flavorings)
-
-
Acylation
Acylation reactions can be used to produce compounds like amides , Acyl chlorides and acid anhydrides as well as esters.

aldehydes and ketones
-
The carbonyl functional group consists of a carbon which is double bonded to an oxygen atom. it is used in aldehydes , ketones . carboxylic acids and amides.
