Unit 2
LO1
Understand the concepts of equality, diversity and rights and how these are applied in the context of health, social care and childcare environments
Key Terms
Values of care
Core principals that underpin care work. They aim to eliminate discrimination, reduce inequalities and help ensure that individuals care needs are met.
1.1 Concepts
Equality
Promoting equality means ensuring people are treated fairly and equally. All individuals must be given the same choices and opportunities regardless of their specific needs and differences. They must no be discriminated against due to their age, race, sexuality, disability or gender
Diversity
Diversity encompasses recognizing and valuing that every individual is unique. Valuing diversity involves accepting differences, for example differences in religion, beliefs or race
Diversity can be seen in the following ways
Education, Pregnancy, Disability, Race, Religion, Cultural Differences, Gender and Gender Reassignment, Sexuality and Sexual Orientation, Age, Family Structure, The Arts, Music, Food, Dress, Language, Social Class
Rights
Rights are what everyone is legally entitled to and enshrined in legislation, such as the Equality Act 2010
Examples of rights
Confidentiality
Information should only be shared on a need to know basis, for example with other workers involved in individuals care. You should not share information with anyone else, even a persons friend and family, without the individuals permission
Protection
This is protection form abuse or harm. Safeguarding procedures should be followed at all times to protect adults and children in care environments. Health and Safety information should be adhered to. Fire and evacuation procedures should be in place. Risk assessments should be carried out for activities, trips and use of equipment, for example a hoist to lift and individual into a bath.
Choice
This gives individuals a choice over their lives and increases self esteem because it promoted independence. It is also called empowerment
Equal and fair treatment
Individuals should be treated in accordance with the the law and their needs. Everyone should be given the same opportunities to access education, health and social care. It is important to realize that providing the same treatment does not always guarantee equality, because individuals are in different situations and have different needs. Treating everyone the same does not mean that equality is being promoted
Consultation
Individuals in health, social care and CC environments should be asked for their opinions and views about what type of care they would like, and their views and opinions taken into account of wherever possible
Right to life
An individuals life is protected by law. This means that no on is allowed to harm you and you are not allowed to harm anyone else. Everyone's life should be valued and respected no matter what.
Application of the concepts
Applying the values of care can help maintain or improve a service users quality of life
To apply the values of care means that all individuals using H&SC & CC environments receive appropriate levels of care, attention and treatment and that they have equal opportunities and are free from discrimination and their rights supported

Protocols
UDP
Uses checksums to check for errors
Does not guarantee packet delivery
Minimal header overhead making it lightweight
Does not guarantee ordered delivery of packets
Utilizes port numbers for addressing and data differentiation
User Datagram Protocol
Connectionless
SMNP
Simple Network Management Protocol
Designed for network monitoring and managing
2 Primary Components
Management System
Monitors and controls agents
Agents
Resides on network devices
Employed by network administration and IT professionals
Monitor device performance
Health check and diagnostics
Configuration Management
Receive alerts
Benefits of using SNMP
Scalability
Interoperability
Proactive Management
Resource Efficiency
TCP/IP
This is two separate protocols
TCP
Cuts messages into packets of data so it can be sent across the internet. It also reassembles the message at the destination
IP
Internet Protocol
Ensures that each data packet is given a destination address and a sender address
IP only reads packets if it the intended destination for that packet. Packets that are not addressed to that computer are ignored by the IP
HTTP
All websites are made of HTML behind the scenes
HTML
Hypertext Mark-Up Language
Web browsers such as Chrome and Firefox read this HTML and creates the webpage
The HTTP protocol is used to send HTML files from a web server to a web browser
The web server responds by sending the file to the browser
The browser receives the HTTP files and displays the web page
HTTP requests the page from the web server
Hyper-text Transfer Protocol
HTTPS
Hyper-text Transfer Protocol
FTP
Used for transmitting files over the internet
Uses TCP/IP protocol
Two Channels
Command Channel: controlling the conversation
Data Channel: communicating content
Allows for files to be moved, renamed, deleted, uploaded, downloaded and copied on the server
Specific FTP login is needed
File Transfer Protocol
IMAP
Internet Mail Access Protocol
Messages are stored on the mail server
POP
Post Office Protocol
Messages are stored on the message recipients computer
SMTP
Single Mail Transport Protocol
Sending Email Messages
ICMP
Internet Control Message Protocol
Used to report errors to the source IP if there is a problem delivering packets of data to the destination IP
Types of Software
Application Software
Utility Software
Operating Systems
Communication Methods

Types of Severs
File servers: These servers are used to store data in a central location within a network. Authorised users will be able to access there own personal area as well as shared areas.
Print Servers: Used to manage printing across the network. They manage print queues and may allow users to see the environmental impacts and cost of printing
