A Neurophenomenology of Awe and Wonder (Academic)
This book by Shaun Gallagher, Lauren Reinerman, Bruce Janz, Praticia Bokelman, and Jorg Trempler focuses on the affects that astronauts feel while in space. The major affect this study is researching is the feeling of Awe and Wonder that encompases the astronaut. The researchers gathered this information by having the astronauts keep journal entries and also did their own simulated space environment with a subject group. I can use this for my thesis becuase it focuses of the feeling of awe and wonder and how it effects people in life, leading them to chase or feel the need to pursue something.
What are we all chasing by Adam Griffin (Informal Artical)
This article is Adam Griffin questioning the reason for humanities collective insanity (A term he coined) as people repeat the same thing over and over and over again. He establishes that people should live life for the journey and not the outcome they get from activities, life, or work. This will help my thesis topic because it questions what we are doing with our lives and puts it under a microscope in order to ask questions about it that I could go further on.
Secret Life of Walter Mitty (Movie)
This movie featuring Ben Stiller is about a man who works for LIFE magazine in New York City who has done nothing with his life and spends most of his day daydreaming. Until one day, a photogrpaher sends him a contact sheet with the cover photo for the last ever print LIFE magazine but he cannot find it. He gets a daydream of the photographer beckoning him to where ever he is and so he grabs his suitcase and hops on a plane to Iceland in hopes of finding the photographer to ask about the photo. He goes from doing nothing in his life at all to jumping out of a helicopter into shark infested water, survived a volacano erupting, visited Greenland and Iceland, then went and climbed a mountain in the Middle East. He soon finds the photographer who tells him where the photo is. Along the whole journey he finds himself and the audience glimpses into how much his life changed in a spur of the moment decision. This can help me with my thesis because it is a movie about changing your whole life around and has helped many people who have seen it. It has also gained a cult-like following.
