Energy and Environment
Environment
Human activities that harm the environment: Essentially any and every way in which we have affected the eco-system leading to reprecussions
Industry waste that leads to air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution etc.
'
Then your products chooses an industry or a process (has to be very very big) and either look to make it more efficient (can be both resourcefully or energy wise)
-
-
Over-compustion of things like food or metals and then improper waste management. This leads to clogged water systems, polluted waters, etc.
We can either make a solution that helps make waste management easier, hence, promoting it.
We design a solution that is able to re-use that waste, either energy wise or resource wise
-
Over-use of resources such as trees, fish, animals in general. This tackles issues such as deforestation, over-fishing, etc
The solution can be focused around creating suitable alternatives for these materials that are less harsh on the environment leading to a decrease in the over-use of systems.
-
These resources also include those needed for renewable energy (e.g chromium for batteries). Hence, we can look to make these extractions more efficient to save energy and also resources
Energy
Waste of energy/Inefficient systems: This is a problem based around process or systems that are energy inefficient, leading to a waste of energy and hence requirement of more energy
-
These can also be everyday products that we use. Note: Any product we choose has to be heavily reliant on for changing it to be worth it in the sense of making a big enough difference. A niche item such as a microwave is unlikely to make too much of a difference.
Again this will either a product that is more efficient that the one in question, or an update on the current one that solves its issues
Over-reliance on Non-renewable fuels: These fuels are slowly depleting meaning that if we remain addicted to them, we soon will have no energy source. Moreover, they are bad for the environemnt.
-
Or we can make the processes or non-renewable energy use more efficient, to make these last longer. However, this will also have to include an element of environmentally more efficient as well because extracting and using these fuels is still very costly
