How Anglo-Saxons lost their land. - Coggle Diagram
How Anglo-Saxons lost their land.
What were the different ways on how the land was taken?
Forcefully
A lot of land was taken by force, ethier brutally or not, most likely using soldiers of other means of military to make the Anglo-Saxons give their land away.
Land Grabs
This was literally Normans just ''snatching'' land from the Anglo-Saxons, this would occur through corruption or just taking.
Forfeit
Anglo-Saxons would forfiet their land to the Normans, as many of them at this stage had more power than them.
How as the land held?
Barons
Some land was also in control by Barons, this would allow similar positives to that of Earldoms, but a smaller scale than the Earldoms.
Making the territory smaller
In general the governing of England changed a lot from 1 nation, to small provinces and areas under the same king.
Creating Earldoms
This allowed it to be controlled easier as it was more of small provinces rather than on large area which needed to be controlled, also these Earldoms would of been led by Williams followers, so they were also loyal.
What were the implications of this?
His followers taking command
He allowed his followers to take command of small provinces because, its less hassle, easier to control, and, if one rebels, it could be defeated easily.
Smaller area
Not only this allowed England to be easily controlled, but also stop any of his followers from uprising, as they were spread far apart from each other.
Taking land
In general, this meant and signified that the Anglo-Saxons had lost control, and that they were now under a new ruler, which could take their land if he wanted to.
