In a small town of about 50 people a large group of what is now referred to as a cult bought a farm and the land that came with it. This caused a lot of people to be concerned and suspicious of their intentions. One of the practices that this group shared with the town was a type of meditation that had 4 parts. stage 1 was chaotic breathing, breathing fast in and out of the nose to arouse a force. stage 2 was to explode, let everything out and scream. Stage 3 Hoo, the group would jump and repeatedly say Hoo. stage 4 silence, you are quiet and still. In this group everyone wore orange and red outfits with beaded necklaces. This group was from India and were a part of the biggest immigration fraud in the United States. The leader of this group had the goal to make an international commune. Many people were flying to India to meet their "master" or the creator of these practices. People felt that these meditations were the best outlet for them, and they felt they belonged when they were with this group. The practices progressed more and more overtime, but members didn't notice because of the slow progression. This is helpful for my thesis topic because it gives me a history of a specific cult and I can apply what this group has done to other groups in th US who have not been but could also be classified as a cult.
