Note Taking Methods
Concept Map Method
The Concept Map Method is the same as a mind map. You put an idea in the center and branch off and using ideas around the center.
-
Cornell Method
This method has two columns separated by a line in the middle vertically. The left side is questions during the lecture you have. The right side is for you to answer after class. There is a space at the bottom for you to write a general summary.
This method is good for finding key concepts and concepts you dont have a good grasp on to help understand further.
Outline Method
This method puts the most important ideas on the top left side and they are numbered. Underneath, you make one idea the title and go into further detail below. You do this for every idea listed.

active listening
-
focus on task: give the speaker your undivided attention. For example you can turn off your cellphone and be quite during the lecture.
asker the speaker for clarity: make sure you understand what the speaker said. Do not assume you knew what they meant.
understand what the person is saying. A great way to understand a speaker is to ask questions. You can ask as many question as you need to. No question is a stupid question.
look for non-verbal signs like facial expressions or even hand motions. Your Professor can also use non-verbal motions to indicate when something is important.
listen for requests: such as when someone says they hate
something or don't like it, they most likely need help.
Your setting is also very important. It can minimize distractions and expand your intake of knowledge.
taking notes is also a great way to be an active listener. It will help you organize your thoughts and can even help you further teach yourself about said subject.
