Reception
-
The Director went too far with his
own creative elements which
completely changed the outcome
and direction of the movie
A plot which was designed for 5 elaborate
novels and should have been converted
diirectly into 5 movies was instead adapted
into 2 movies
Due to this, various elements were outright removed,
which were intrinsic to the watcher's complete understanding
of the events. a first time viewer with no prior knowledgewwas only left confused.
Readers of the series were the
primary audience who felt very
let down by the lackluster experience
provided by this new edited version
The movie is largely viewed as a
disappointment. It is even used
as an example to portray the
caveats of adapting novels
and other print texts into live action
Aesthetics/Cinematics
Inconsistent Tone
The films attempted to blend humour, adventure and drama, but the transitions often felt abrupt and forced, making it difficult for the viewers to connect emotionally with the characters and the movies as a whole.
The lack of cohesion made the movies challenging for the viewers to fully connect to it. Lacking character development of main characters like Percy, Annabeth and Grover heavily affected the quality of the movies.
Aging of Characters
The aging inconsistency between the characters and their counterparts in the books was prominent. As the movies progressed, the characters were supposed to age, but this wasn't well represented in the movies, leading to a disconnect with the source material.
In the books, the characters are younger, but the actors chosen for the movie were noticeably older. This dissonance affected the quality and believability of the movies.
Costume and Set Design
Costumes and set designs felt lacklustre and generic, missing the opportunity to bring the rich and vibrant world of Greek mythology to life.
