Erythrocytes
Red Blood cells
Carries oxygen and carbon dioxide around the body
Biconcave increases surface area for oxygen
small and flexible can get into narrow capillaries
Neutrophils
Most common white blood cell( 60-70%)
Created in bone marrow
They are motile and ingest and destroy damaged tissue and bacteria ( Phagocytic)
They self destruct after one burst of activity
Monocytes
Largest blood cell
Prevents infection by producing anti-bodies
Removes dead cells and bacteria
Destroyed damaged cells
Platelets
Also known as cell fragments
Platelets are tiny blood cells that help form blood clots
Damaged vessels send out a signal to the the platelets where they then form a blood clot
Fibrin- Protein coagulation- blood clot
Lympocytes
2nd most common white blood cell
Contains a nucleus
two main types of cells
T- cells
attack viruses
Attack cancer cells
B-cells
Develop plasma into antibodies
Plasma
55% of our blood
Made up of mostly water but has other substances dissolved in it.
Amino acids
Various salts
Glucose
Carbon dioxide
Proteins
Other poisonous wastes such as Urea
