The human age
Anthropocene
The origin of Anthropocene
In 1870, the concept of Anthropocene was first proposed by Italian geologist Antonio Stoppani under the name of “Anthropozoic”.
In 2002, Dutch chemist Paul Crutzen wrote up the Anthropocene idea in the journal of nature and the term Anthropocene officially recognized.
Humanity impact on the planet
Agriculture
Occupies 38% of the planet's ice-free area
Is predicted to later be absorbed into the soil, creating a new layer of sediments
Carbon oxide emissions
Cause the inability of corals to construct reef.
The most influential factor contributing to the start of the Anthropocene epoch
Construction of cities
Yet is the least transient because they are built on land where erosion can make them disappear before the start of sedimentation.
The most visible human effect on the planet
Deforestation
The loss of natural habitat result in greater extinction rate
Result in massive soil erosion --> Increase the rate of sedimentation
