No solid surface, only a dense core.
Number of Planets:
There are 4 inner planets:
Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars.
Distance from the Sun:
Closer to the Sun. Located within the asteroid belt.
Names:
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars. Size: Relatively smaller in size compared to outer planets
outer planet
Composition:
Mostly composed of hydrogen and helium. No solid surface, only a dense core.
Number of Planets:
There are 4 outer planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
Distance from the Sun:
Farther from the Sun. Located beyond the asteroid belt.
Names:
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune. Size: Much larger in size compared to inner planets.
other objects
Asteroids: Rocky and metallic objects that orbit the Sun, primarily found in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
Moons: Natural satellites that orbit planets.
Meteoroids: Small rocks or metal fragments that travel through space.
Comets: Icy bodies that originate from the outer regions of the solar system and develop tails when they approach the Sun.
planets
Definition:
Planets are celestial bodies that orbit a star (in our case, the Sun) and are massive enough to be nearly spherical in shape.
Number in Our Solar System:
There are eight planets in our
solar system:
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Examples: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.
dwarf planets
Definition:
Dwarf planets are similar to planets in that they orbit a star, but they have not cleared their orbits of other debris.
Examples:
Pluto is the most well-known dwarf planet in our solar system.
