Inner and Outer Planets
Inner Planets
Planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Earth
Meaning/Definition Inner planets are the smaller planets closest to the sun, they have solid surface which means made out of rock and solid, and they have less moons.
Characteristics No rings, rotates/spins slow, made of solid rock.
Structure Shorter orbits, slower spin, no rings and made of rock and metal.
-
Outer Plantes
Meaning/Definition Outer planets are the bigger planets farther from the sun, they don't have solid surfaces as the inner planets do but instead they compose mostly gas. They are jovian planets.
Planets Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus
Characteristics Has rings, spins faster, made of primarily gas.
Structure Composition of gasses and liquids, numerous moons, and rings.
Moons Jupiter has 79 moons, while saturn has 82, uranus has 27, and neptune has 14.
Planets, Dwarf planets & other objects
Dwarf Planets
-
Structure Solid surface, icy or cold.
Planets Pluto, haumea, ceres, etc.
Meaning/Definition A dwarf planet is a small planetary mass object that is in direct orbit of the sun, they are made or composed of similar ices like methane and nitrogen frost coat the surface.
Moons Dysnomia, weywot, etc.
Planets
Planets are space objects that go around stars. They don't make their own light, but they reflect the star's light, which is why we can see them from a far distance.
