Key places to look for main points
1) Title
2) abstract
3) key words
4) figure and table titles.
5) 1st and last sentence of intro
Look for " We hypothesize, propose, introduce.
Least effective way is to read from start to finish.

Read in order of "ADIRM"
-Abstract
-Discussion
-Intro
-Results
-Methods
Abstract
1) purpose (why)
2) Methodology (how)
3) Results ( what they found)
4) conclusion ( what it means)
Discussion
1) Answers the questions in the intro.
2) how do the results support the conclusion
-Do I understand it and believe it?
Introduction
1) does it stimulate my interest
2) put the article in larger context
-why did they do this study?
Results
1) what answers were found?
2) key data, tables or figures.
-Does the data support the conclusion?
The methods
1) What experiments were done?
2) The methods can be difficult to read because of the technical language and details.
look things up if I do not understand them

Chapter 11:
Write a summary of the paper, this will help determine what is important and not important.
write it as an expanded version of the abstract.
the main question or purpose of the paper and provide context.
explain how the authors approached the study.
describe key findings.
discuss the meanings of the findings.
finish by stating the overall impact of the research and explain why I think its relevant.
Make sure the terminology is correct and limit the summary to one page.
Abstract
mini summary of the paper and should have the known/unknown, research question/ purpose, experimental approach, results and significance.
Intro
gives relavent background info & introduces the problem.
-last paragraph states the overall question or purpose of the paper and the approach.
Methods
-explains the experiments approach, very technical and detail oriented. typically for and overview you can refer to the end of the intro.
Results
shows the finding of the work.
-The first paragraphs tell the main results of the research.
-the rest of the paragraphs outline what the approach and findings were.

Discussion
-key findings and their significance.
1st paragraph gives the main results and their meaning along with answering the overall research.
-Last paragraph/conclusion points out the importance and potential impact of the research and may also go over the main findings and point to the direction of future studies

Critique the paper and highlight the strength and weaknesses of the paper. this will help deepen the knowledge and understand what you should be looking for in a paper.
