Traditional industries grew rapidly, and by 1914 coal production rivalled Britain
More coal, iron and steel helped to build and fuel railways, trains and ships.
By 1914 Germany was outproducing the rest of Europe in industries like technological goods and chemicals

Industrialisation was accompanied by rapid urbanisation as people moved to towns and cities for work, this led to poor living conditions and outbreaks of diseases like cholera

Agricultural production didn’t increase at the same rate so more food was imported, and was therefore more expensive
High rates of immigration provided more workers but fuelled social problems likes a hatred of ‘foreigners’ and antisemitism grew
