Cause's and sources
Some causes and sources could be consumption of contaminated food, uncooked meat products, raw milk and untreated water
Risks
Can leaf to kidney failure if left untreated which can develop into a serious condition called haemolytic urcemic syndrome. This is the highest risk for kids under the age of 5
Symptoms
Severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, low fever
Salmonella
Description
Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause a food-borne infection called salmonellosis which is a rod-shaped bacteria. Time between exposure of this illness 6 hours to 6 days and can be mixed with the stomach flu
Risks
People at higher risk of getting salmonella are those who are of the age of 5 years or younger and adults over the age of 65. People also at risk are those whose immune systems are weekend from medical conditions like diabetes, liver or kidney diseases.If having long term salmonella it can lead to gallbladder or colorectal cancer and can increase the risk of immune related diseases like arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease
Symptoms
Diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, vommiting and nausea
Causes and sources
Some of the causes and sources can be eating by eating uncooked or raw meat, eggs or uncooked chicken. Another way could be from drinking unpasteurized milk
Staphylococcus
Description
Staphylococcus is a gram-positive bacteria. This is a foodbourne illness that can be caused by a cut in your skin and bacteria getting into the skin. This foodbourne illness can also be carried on the skin or nose but will not cause an infection unless it has a way to get into the body by a cut or wound. This is a foodbourne illness the† can spreed from person to person.
Causes and sources
Staphylococcus is most commonly caused by by bacteria getting into ones skin from something like a cut, that can lead to a skin infection.
Risks
There are different strands of staphylococcus that can lead to worse symptoms. An example could be staphylococcus aureus which can cause serious infections like bloodstream infections, pneumonia or bone and joint infections
Symptoms
some symptoms are skin infections, bone infections, food poisoning and toxic shock syndrome
Botulinum
Description
Botulinum is a bacteria that produces dangerous toxins which block nerve functions. Botulinum can also potentially be a fatal disease, but is pretty rare compared to the other foodbourne illnesses
Causes and sources
Some causes and sources for botulinum could be Not canning items properly, dents in canned foods and can be found in fruits, vegetables and seafood
Risks
Some of the risks are that botulinum is one of the more fatal foodbourne illnesses because it has a higher percent chance of the disease being fatal ranging from 5-10%
Symptoms
Some symptoms for botulinum could be having difficulty swallowing, having muscle weakness, seeing double vision and having difficulty breathing.
Listeria
Description
This is an infection that is usually caused by eating food that is contaminated with bacteriam. This can be in many foods like cheeses, ice cream, hot dogs and other meat and dairy products
Causes and sources
Some of the causes and sources can be from eating improperly processed deli meats and having unpasteurized dairy products. Another cause could be from having raw vegetables which are contaminated from soil or manure
Risks
A risk that you can get if having listeria could be getting a bad virus of it that could lead to developing a brain infection or it could cause blood poisoning, which could be fatal.
Symptoms
some symptoms of listeria could be having a fever, chills, muscle pains, nausea and diarrhea
Clostridium Perfringens
Description
Clostridium Perfringens is a foodbourne illness that causes diarrhea and stomach pains. This is a less intense foodbourne illness as it only last 24-48 hours
Causes and sources
Some of the causes and sources could be having meats, poultry, gravies and many other foods cooked in large batches or unsafe temperatures
Risks
some risk with this illness is that it can happen suddenly within the day of having the food with the bacteria in it. There aren't many risks other than having diarrhea or feeling noshes for 24-48 hours.
Symptoms
One of the most common symptoms of Clostridium is watery diarrhea. Other symptoms can range from nashua, vommiting, abdominal pains and a fever.
