CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
Scrooge
At the start of the book: he was a miserly old man who only cares about money and is extremely cold hearted. By the end of the book he cares about other people and has realised the consequences his actions will have if he does not change his ways.
Ghost of Christmas Past
Shows Scrooge his old school, his sister, his ex fiancee who split with him because he cared about money too much, and his first employer. The ghost of christmas past aims to show Scrooge the truth about his life. Has a light shining out of its head (shining a light on Scrooge's past) and has an otherwise ambiguous appearance.

Bob Cratchit
Shown to scrooge by the ghost of christmas present as an example of how poor people are grateful for what they have- the opposite to Scrooge. He works for Scrooge, who used to treat him badly, but by the end of the book Scrooge's attitudes towards the working class have changed & he acts better towards him & gives him christmas day off.
Tiny Tim
The son of bob cratchit. he is a good hearted christian child who is meant to be representative of the lower class- grateful for what he has, even though it isn't a lot. he is ill but stays cheerful.
KEY THEMES
Metamorphosis/BIG change
Scrooge goes through a metamorphosis throughout the play as he begins to see the good in Christmas. He also becomes a better person as he reflects on his past self and begins to accept that what he has done in the past is wrong and he has come to terms with it.

Family
Scrooge reunites with the little family he has left - his nephew Fred. Fred is also his foil character as he contrasts greatly to Scrooge throughout the play.

Scrooge explores his life with the ghosts, uncovering his past, and even what may come of him if he does not change his ways.

STORYLINE
The story starts in Scrooge's office. he is established as an old miser who only cares about himself and money. he doesn't give donations to the charity collectors, and doesn't give Bob Cratchit a day off from work on Christmas.
When scrooge gets home, he is visited by the ghost of his ex business partner marley, who tells him that he will be visited by 3 ghosts before christmas
Scrooge is visited by 3 ghosts- the ghost of christmas past, christmas present, and christmas yet to come. they show him the true meaning of christmas

by the end of the book, scrooge has undergone a metamorphosis and is now a good christian that loves christmas. He donates to the poor, gives Bob a day off for christmas, and also gifts his family a turkey.
