The Cognitive Perspective
The human cognitive perspective filters information, deciding what is important enough to save into the short-term memory, or saving it permanently to the long- term memory.
The example for each cognitive bias learned in class.
WYSIATI
Using celebrities with positive images to endorse products may cause us to have a special liking for the product because of the endorser before we use the product. For example, many products recommended by celebrities may not actually be that easy to use.
base rate fact
I saw a man with tattoos murder someone on the street, thus projecting the impression that "people with tattoos are bad" onto other people with tattoos.
heuristics
When I first met Jerry, he spoke generously on the stage, which made me think that Jerry is a very eloquent and confident person, and this will also become a deep impression on me about Jerry.
representative bias
When I play very well with a friend, we always help each other, but because I had a fight with him recently, he gradually distanced himself from me.
According to Jean Piaget, what are the 4 stages of cognitive development? Explain the stages.
Stage 2: Pre-Operational
This stage goes from the ages 2-7. This is when young kids start having thoughts instead of just performing actions from habit or instinct.
Stage 3: Concrete-Operational
This stage goes from the ages 7-11. During this time, the brain learns to re-arrange thoughts.
Stage 1: Sensori-Motor
This stage goes from the ages 0-2. Babies develop senses such as touch and hearing during this time.
Stage 4: Formal-Operational
This stage goes from the ages 12 and above. At this age, people can understand more abstract concepts, such as Identity and Morality.
What's you favorite theory? Why?
Our favorite theory is Atkinson and Shiffrin's multi-store memory model. This is because it's fascinating and shows how memories have to pass through three distinct stages: Sensory Memory, Short-Term Memory, and finally Long-Term Memory. The multi-store model is an explanation of memory that assumes there are three memory stores, and that information is transferred between these stores in a linear ordering.
