Priority Nursing Problem/ Analysis: Diabetic patient presents with signs of infection in pressure wound

Potential Complication #1: Sepsis - Sepsis can occur when the body improperly responds to an infection. Fever, fast heart rate, low blood pressure, and confusion are some key symptoms leading into this risk.
Potential Complication #2: Further infection leading to amputation of right foot. If the infection is not treated appropriately, there is risk of the infection spreading and possibly becoming necrotic.

Action to Prevent: Treat the infection!! Nurse should instruct patient to be efficient with medications and be aware of increasing symptoms.
Action to Prevent: Educate patient on the importance of hygiene. Ensure patient is bathing daily, washing hands, and changing gown/linens.
Outcomes/ Planning
Long-Term Outcome: Patient will understand the importance of ambulation and repositioning by the time of discharge. Patient will properly take and finish prescribed medications.
