RESPIRATION - Coggle Diagram

- - - - Extra oxygen is needed to break down lactic acid
      - This extra oxygen is called the oxygen debt
      - Lactic acid is toxic and builds up the muscle and can cause a cramp
      - After vigorous exercise we need to breathe deeply to take in enough oxygen to repay the oxygen debt
    - - Produces ethonal (alcohol) and carbon dioxide
      - Glucose is only partly broken down
      - Respiration without oxygen
      - Releases much less energy than aerobic respiration
    - - Takes place in the cytoplasm in cells
      - Glucose is only partly broken down
      - Not enough oxygen as cannot be delivered to the muscles fast enough
      - Produces lactic acid
      - Occurs in muscles during vigorous exercise e.g. sprinting
