At Least 3x Higher Number of Organisms Grown from Catheter versus Peripheral Blood Culture
Growth from Catheter-Drawn Blood Culture Occurs at Least 2 Hours before
Pathogenesis
Extraluminal - Migrate along External Surface of Catheter from Skin Entry Site (Occurs w/in 7 Days)
Intraluminal - Migrate along Internal Surface of Catheter (> 7 Days)
Contamination (from Fluid Infused through Catheter System)
