Seeds are fetilised ovule that contrains an embryonic plant. With correct conditions, the seeds would germinate and grow into a seedling

disadvantages
- limited to measuring germination rates of the seeds and extent of growth. Time pressures as certain seeds may require a longer time to germinate.
advantages
highly quantitative data can be collected when measuring germination rates (i.e. number of seeds germinatd)

seedlings are newly germinated plants that have just emerged from seeds. As they are in their early stages of growth, they appear to have a small size and underdevelopment. Therefore suitable for the experiment as DV such as plant growth can be measured quantitativly.
advantages
- a wide range of physical changes of the plant can be measured, the effect of IV is clearer.
Disadvantages
- cost associated with purchasing the amount of seedlins needed.
Method of growing the plant
using a plant pot - traditional method of growing a plant, requires consistent manual watering
Irrigation system - Artifical application of water to plants through systems of tubes, pumps, or sprays. No manual watering, more controlled watering volume
