Summary
Developing collaborative partnerships with professionals, paraprofessionals, and families is a cornerstone of the educational system. The characteristics of collaboration and the important skills for collaborating effectively will pave the way for establishing positive relationships. In this chapter, we presented types of collaboration characteristics and critical skills such as conflict resolution and communication, to help you start your career on a high note with all of the players you will encounter. We also discussed models for collaborating with professionals and families so that you can decide the best approach for your teaching. Finally, importantly, given that you might work with paraprofessionals to meet the needs of students with more-severe disabilities, the roles and responsibilities for you and your paraprofessional were detailed and should be carefully considered.
