BODY FLUIDS AND CIRCULATION- Part 2
6. DISORDERS
Hypertension
BP higher(>/140/90) than normal(120/80mm Hg)
120 - systolic/ pumping pressure, 80 - diastolic/ resting pressure
heart diseases, affects brain, kidney
Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)
atherosclerosis - affects blood vessels to heart
Causes - deposits of calcium, fat, cholesterol and fibrous tissues
lumen of arteries narrowing
Angina
angina pectoris
Acute chest pain - no enough oxygen reaches CM
men and women of any age but middle-aged & elderly is common
Heart Failure
not pumping blood effectively -meet needs of the body.
congestive heart failure
-why?(symptom - congestion of lungs)
Cardiac arrest
heart stops beating
Heart attack
CM suddenly damaged by an inadequate blood supply
5. REGULATION OF CARDIAC ACTIVITY
Normal activities - nodal tissue - Myogenic
SNC in medulla oblangata through ANS
sympathetic nerves of ANS
1.increase the rate of heart beat
strength of ventricular contraction
cardiac output
parasympathetic nerves of ANS
2.decrease the rate of heart beat
2.speed of conduction of action potential
cardiac output
Adrenal medullary hormones
increase cardiac output
4. DOUBLE CIRCULATION
Blood Vessels-
arteries and veins
3 layers -
1.inner lining of squamous endothelium,
tunica intima
2.middle layer of smooth muscle & elastic fibres,
tunica media
(thin in veins)
3.external layer of fibrous connective tissue with collagen fibres,
tunica externa
