Completing a wise reasoning exercise reduced attitude polarisation by increasing positivity toward the outgroup. This effect was observed even after controlling for political conservatism.
The wise reasoning may enhance positive behaviours, including less support for hostile immigration policies, a stronger propensity to donate, and a greater amount donated to charities assisting new immigrants.
