Contained resistance, as defined by Feng in his article about Suzie Wong, occurs in Gran Torino as well. One example is when Sue brings up how the Hmongs came to be in the US, highlighting the US's role while in the car with Walt (36:30). This scene serves as a potential critique of US imperialism, but Sue's comment right after, "Booga booga", discredits this critique, writing off Sue as a racist, thus containing this potential resistance.
Contained resistance also exists in Thao's attempts to bring up the US involvement in the conflict using her Hmong dialogue, but this was contained by not translating her dialogue, thus not presenting this perspective to the American audience.
