Following this, the introduction will outline certain criteria to decipher what constitutes as 'good' mental health support. This will educate the reader and allow me to reach a logical conclusion.
Lastly, the conclusion will provide an outline of the 5 heading titles and why they will be discussed in a specific structure. Also touching upon the order in which specific support methods will be discussed.
Firstly, the introduction will outline why mental health support is of significance in today's society, during secondary school and the progression to adulthood. This will build up to a concluding statement, after a thorough assessment of professional research, whether sufficient support is provided.
What are the barriers that schools face in which they are unable to provide adequate support for those students struggling with mental health? (1,050 words)
Impact of mental health stigma: It's important that I focus on a range of ethnic backgrounds to reach a conclusion that doesn't solely focus on one particular group, but can be generalisable to many students. It's worthwhile that I make use of an article on African American college students as previous studies prove that there's ethnic group differences in help-seeking attitudes and self concealment (published by the Journal of Black Studies). This will allow me to outline the factors as to why racial groups struggle to seek support services, and therefore trigger further evaluation as they can be helped. (350 words)
Students attitudes towards mental health support: This article will outline many different reasons as to why students don't seek professional help, the main issue reason being their overthinking conscience. I aim to use multiple researchers (eg. Butler University) that have investigated student attitudes to provide quantitative data as well as qualitative, representing the importance of why children may think there's barriers in accessing services. Lack of funding and appropriately trained staff: This section will outline the two main barriers in why it may be difficult to support students to the best of ability, and how we can build alliances in the community to provide support services. I will use case study examples to prove how schools can work together as a community to provide quality aid to students. (350 words)

The presence of school counsellors: I will be using the UK's first large-scale and long-term research study into how school counselling can help manage young student's mental health issues, led by the University of Roehampton. This study will allow me to access a wide range of teenagers and how counselling has reduced their psychological distress. In order to back up this source, I will be using a second article in which a school counsellor from Minnesota successfully provides screening for depression for 1000 students. This will allow me to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatments provided also. (350 words)
Interventions offered to students: This first section will describe and evaluate the findings obtained from a research report on school-based behavioral screening (published by Copenhagen Consensus Center), using statistics from therapeutic interventions (compared to a control group) and how they can reduce mental health disabilities in secondary school students . To overcome the limitations of the cohort population used in this report, I will use descriptive statistics provided from the CalMHSA program to identify college students' mental health and the faculty's role in supporting them. Improving learning environment: An article that will focus on the association of mental health of first graders with their learning environment, outlining what features of classrooms would cause psychological distress in children (published by the Journal of Health and Social Behaviour). This research will provide an extremely large sample size across kindergarten pupils and also involve interviews with parents to obtain a wide range of views for a equilibrated debate. (350 words)

Lack of social services support: This source will concentrate on the difficult transition to adulthood for vulnerable populations, specifically those involved in social services and juvenile systems (published by The Future of Children). This will allow me to access various populations that are discriminated against in today's society, and explore the negative impacts of their adolescent support being abruptly cut off once they reach adulthood. This will be supported by demographic trends, for example statistically displaying prolonged first marriage/decline in marriage compared to previous years. It's important that social class is thoroughly investigated using this detailed article to compare socioeconomic backgrounds of others and how this may be a limiting factor in the progression of life. Lack of parental support: I will use a particularly journal article that examines whether parent-child affection promotes to young adults psychological wellbeing (published by Social Psychology Quarterly), this approach is significant because it gives an idea of how close relationships with parents need to be to contribute to future wellbeing and how this support may change the course of adult life. It's important that correlational relationships on parental dependency are identified and thoroughly explained in my essay, using this to determine long term influences of self esteem.

Economic interventions: To start this section, I will define what constitutes as financial wellbeing, this will allow me to evaluate economic strategies such as savings accounts and asset-building programs to allow for great financial health. To support the use of these strategies statistics will be provided based on gender, age and ethnicity. The purpose of this section is to evaluate each intervention and outline the main strategy that will protect against economic disparity. (350 words)
Shifting policy options to support vulnerable individuals: In this section I will describe the 4 main policy challenges that vulnerable youth face during the transition to adulthood, such as eligibility criteria in receiving support (published by The Future of Children). In favor of improving support, I will evaluate strong judgements from articles to provide 5 policy changes that can lead to a socially-inclusive system. Finally, outlining examples in which policy developments have been made since the article had been published, and how these promote a comprehensive support system. (350 words)
Career development programming strategies: The SUPPORT project will be a main example of a strategy, aiming to provide disabled youth with coordinated support to ease them into having a contributing role to a community. This support mechanism is important to my research essay to show each individuals strengths and mental health needs can be defined to develop a strategy that will work to their advantage in the long-term.
