Why did Germans resent the terms of the TOV?
War Guilt Clause
Germany had to accept total blame for the cause of WW1
Considered unfair by the Germans as only they had to bear the consequences while the rest of the Central Alliance (Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire, Bulgaria) did not have to accept any punishment.
Accepting this term meant accepting all other terms of the TOV as well. Because of this term, Germany had to face all the impacts made by all other terms in the TOV.
Germany now known as the "cause of WW1" which greatly hurt national pride and reputation.
Territorial Changes
Germany had to give up Upper Silesa and Danzig to Poland (to give Poland a sea port), The Saar (to be run by the LON), African and Oceanic colonies to Britain and France, and many other territories to Denmark and other nations.
With the loss of territories meant the loss of access to resources, and thus affecting the nation's economic rate.
Loss of territories meant losing the population inhabiting those territories, which meant less workers in Germany, a lower production rate and affecting German economy.
Increased nation's vulnerability to invasion
Reparations
Germany had to pay roughly $6.6B (roughly $269B today) to other nations for war damages caused by Germany and the Central Alliance during WW1.
Worsened Germany's war debt that they had even before WW1, and led to many economic issues in Germany.
Germany decided to print out more money in order to pay for the reparations, but with more money printed the lower the monetary value went, thus causing hyperinflation for the Germans in 1923.
Disarmament
Germany was only allowed to have their military within strict limits. They were allowed no more than 100,000 men, 6 battleships, no aircrafts/submarines/armored vehicles, and were forbidden to draft soldiers (had to be voluntary). Rhineland was also demilitarized (military prohibited from entering the area), as a buffer state between France and Germany.
Germans also felt that this was unfair as they will not be able to defend themselves from hostile neighbors.
Proven through during Ruhr invasion, when Belgian and French forces occupied Ruhr as Germany was not able to pay them their reparations.
Germany not allowed to form Anchluss with Austria
Germany not allowed to join LON
This further insulted the Germans.
