Road Blocks to Equal Education
Poverty
Rural and urban schools, and schools that serve a high percentage of kids from low-income families are less likely to offer foundational computer science.
In some of the world’s poorest countries, up to 95% of children with disabilities are out of school.
Poverty and education are inextricably linked, because people living in poverty may stop going to school so they can work, which leaves them without literacy and numeracy skills they need to further their careers.
Even if public school is free, some schools require uniforms and supplies to be purchased. If lower-income children can't afford the items, they are not allowed to enroll
Understaffed Schools
Several dozen school buildings have temporarily shut down due to an insufficient number of adults on the job

More than half of all public schools in the country reported that they were understaffed at the start of the 2022-23 school year, according to the National Center for Education Statistics

Funding
School funding issues continue to persist. While the economy recovered in the aftermath of the Great Recession, schools budgets haven’t. Budget cuts are still occurring across the board, class sizes continue to grow, and pre-K programs are being eliminated, leading to less learning time.

The United States is underfunding its K-12 public schools by nearly $150 billion annually, robbing more than 30 million school children of the resources they need to succeed in the classroom
Bullying
Bullying can make students more likely to develop anxiety, which makes it harder for people to form relationships with friends, peers, and teachers.
Every day, more than 280,000 students are physically attacked in schools and one out of ten students who drop out of school mentions repeated bullying as a factor.
If students are bullied regularly, they may not want to go to school or participate in school-related activities, like sports or field trips.
Students who are repeatedly bullied receive poorer grades and participate less in class discussions… students may get mislabeled as low achievers because they do not want to speak up in class for fear of getting bullied
Students who are repeatedly bullied may experience physical symptoms like stomach pains, headaches, and trouble sleeping
Racial Inequality
In Cameroon, there are 11 primary school students for every reading textbook and 13 for every mathematics textbook in second grade.
School districts with high concentrations of Latinx and Black students are much more likely to be underfunded than majority white districts
Children in many countries in sub-Saharan Africa are often squeezed into overcrowded classrooms, classrooms that are falling apart, or are learning outside.
Compared with white students, black students are more likely to be suspended or expelled, less likely to be placed in gifted programs and subject to lower expectations from their teachers.
