Ancient Civilization
Mesopotamia
Location: I know because the region did not originally have a name, but the ancient Greeks called it "Mesopotamia", which means the land between the rivers. Also, an example is "two great rivers flowed southward through the Middle East," which were called the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. (Steele 6)
Government: Mesopotamia was in wars for almost all of its history. Every city-state was trying to take over the others. The wars were not just caused because of greed, it was also caused by scarce resources in the city-states, and growing populations that caused resources to become scarce. There were large empires that were being backed by authoritative, and brutal armies.
Art:
Religion: This statue may look big, but it is not a very big statue it ranges from 72 to 41 centimeters tall. It was meant to pray for the person who placed it there.
Writing: The Sumerians were the first civilization recorded in history to write.
Architecture: The throne room walls were painted and had symbols on them. Multiple rulers built extravagant palaces within their barriers. They had humongous gates that were made out of bronze, walls made out of glassy bricks, beams of cedar, along with roofs of precious woods. An astounding courtyard led to an extended throne room, that was guarded by an extraordinary statues of mythical beasts.
Ancient Egypt
Religion: "Many of the gods are represented by animals: a baboon might stand for Thoth, god of wisdom, at one temple, and a Moon god named Khonsu at another." "The Egyptians worshipped hundreds of different gods and goddesses, and sometimes it is difficult to work out who was who." These texts show that the Egyptians may or may not have so many gods that they have similar animals that symbolize them. (Hart 24)
Architecture: Egyptians made the pyramids to represent the king climbing a stairway to the Sun god, and later on sloping steps for pyramids was meant to mean the beginning of the world where the Sun god came up from a watery mound.
Location: More than ninety percent of Egypt is sand. The Egyptians settled near water sources so they could survive in the environment.
Art: Egyptians most likely used jewelry as art, and drawing for art and not just today ´ s kind of art.
Writing: The text says "an elaborate form of picture-writing with about 700 different signs."
Government: governments in Egypt are believed to have started around 3500 BCE.
