Mesopotamia

Location: In the text it says that two great rivers, the Tigris and Euphrates, flowed southward in the Middle East. Also, on page 6 it said that Mesopotamia "extended into parts of what is now Turkey, Syria, and southwestern Iran." (Steele 6) image

Government:There are many different governments. In the text it said, "Their empire brought stability to many lands" The author is talking about the Assyrians. On page 50, it talks about the Assyrians and how they are a ruthless, but caring empire. (Steele 50) image

Art: In the text it the Mesopotamians mastered many technologies and crafts at an early point in history. On page 28 it says, "Some time before 3500 BCE, they invented the potter's wheel, which made pottery production far more efficient." That shows one of the crafts at an early point in history. Writing: On page 12 it says, people began to require records of ownership, business deals, and government. At first they used picture symbols to represent objects such as cattle, garin, or fish. (Steele 12) image

Ancient Egypt

Location: On page 8 it says more than 90 percent of Egypt .The result was usually a good summer to be harvested at this time of the year. The egyptians lived on the banks of the Nile river. (Hart 10) image

Religion: In the text it says, the Egyptians worshiped hundreds of different gods and goddesses, and sometimes it is difficult to work out who was who. On page 24 it says, " Many of the gods are represented by animals: a baboon might stand for Thoth, god of wisdom, at one temple, and a Moon god named khonsu at another." (Hart 24) image

Government: On page 10 the king was not the most powerful and not the important guy in Egypt.He was still king of egypt 94 years later he was 100 years old. (Hart 10) image

Art: On page 6, it says early jewelers used semi precious stones from the deserts. Also on page 6 it says, Luxury items like these necklaces show us that before the pharaohs not every labor was needed till the soil or hunt for food. (Hart 6) image

Writing: On page 34 it says, Scribes had to be experts in writing hieroglyphs, an elaborate form of picture-writing with about 700 different signs. Also on page 34 it says, hieroglyphs were used on state monuments, templates, tombs, and religious papyri. (Hart 34) image Link Title

Architecture: On page 20 it says The first pyramid was first built as the burial place of king Djoser in c.2650 BCE.The king climbed to join the sun. (Hart 20) image

Architecture: In the text said, some of Mesopotamia's architecture includes Ziggurats and temples. On page 24 it says, "Temple platforms were big built at Eridu as early as 5000 BCE" (Steele 24) image

Religion: In the text it said, they believed in polytheism, the belief of many gods and goddesses. On page 14 it says, all towns believe on different gods. " The Babylonians worship Enki as Ea, inanna the goddess Ishtar." That shows the many different gods and goddesses they believe in. (Steele 14) image

Ancient China

Religion: On page 26 it said there were disagreements over religious principles, only a few were persecuted for their beliefs. Tang empires led to decline of Buddhism and the revival of Confucianism. Buddhism had taken firm root in chinese culture and became China's most popular belief. (Cotterell) image

Art: On page 58 it said that trade flourished under the Mongol, or Yuan, dynasty. The Mongol emperors ruled China from 1279 to 1368 and permitted merchants to trade freely throughout their vast empire. They controlled the entire length of the silk road, a series of trade routes that ran from northern China across Asia. (Cotterell)

Architecture Technology: A lot of the greatest inventions came from China.In the text it said in the Middle Ages all of the inventions were carried on the silk road to Europe. As time went on the inventions and technology improved greatly. (Cotterell) image

Writing: On page 11 it said they used oracle bones to talk with the spirits. Mainly ox bones or tortoise shells were used and scorched until it cracked. The cracks were then read to discover answers about the ancestors. (Cotterell) image

Government: The text it says Horse drawn chariots were the form of transport. It also says Metalwork and Chinese writing were starting to be used. There were many different vessels made through each dynasty. (Cotterell) image

Trade Commerce: On page 58 it said that trade flourished under the Mongol, or Yuan, dynasty. Location: I know this because The cities were enclosed in urban communities and they were the middle of government and the power of the authorities were reinforced with town planning. The towns and cities were traditionally built by a grid system and split into sections called wards. Markets were mostly planted along one of the main streets. (cotterell) image

Ancient India

Location: In the text, it states that the archaeologists found over 4,000 year old cities. The cities that existed at the same time are Egyptians and Mesopotamians. Some cities that were included were the Harappa and Mohenjo - daro. (Prentice Hall World Studies) image

Writing: In the text, it states that over 400 symbols have been uncovered from different locations. A lot of symbols are located on seals, ceramic pots, and many other types of materials. At this time writing cannot be deciphered. (Prentice Hall World Studies) image

Religion: In the text, it states the religion of the ancient Aryans are known as Brahmanism. Was polytheistic and heavily influenced the later development of Hinduism. Both religions have much in common and share many rituals. (Prentice Hall World Studies) image

Architecture/Technology: In the text, it states that the early cities showed little remains of the world's early sanitation system and with the cities people could obtain water through them. Within many of the homes some of the rooms had facilities where the wastewater was being directed to cover some drains and lines the major streets. This was a very advanced thing back then. Government: In the text, it states one Aryan influence on modern day was the development of the caste system. It is a social group where people are born and they cannot change. It began because the Aryans had for social classes. (Prentice Hall World Studies) image
