Mesopotamia
Location: In the text it says that two great rivers, the Tigris and Euphrates, flowed southward in the Middle East. Also, on page 6 it said that Mesopotamia "extended into parts of what is now Turkey, Syria, and southwestern Iran." (Steele 6)
Government:There are many different governments. In the text it said, "Their empire brought stability to many lands" The author is talking about the Assyrians. On page 50, it talks about the Assyrians and how they are a ruthless, but caring empire. (Steele 50)
Art: In the text it the Mesopotamians mastered many technologies and crafts at an early point in history. On page 28 it says, "Some time before 3500 BCE, they invented the potter's wheel, which made pottery production far more efficient." That shows one of the crafts at an early point in history. (Steele 28)
Writing: On page 12 it says, people began to require records of ownership, business deals, and government. At first they used picture symbols to represent objects such as cattle, garin, or fish. (Steele 12)
Architecture: In the text said, some of Mesopotamia's architecture includes Ziggurats and temples. On page 24 it says, "Temple platforms were big built at Eridu as early as 5000 BCE" (Steele 24)
Religion: In the text it said, they believed in polytheism, the belief of many gods and goddesses. On page 14 it says, all towns believe on different gods. " The Babylonians worship Enki as Ea, inanna the goddess Ishtar." That shows the many different gods and goddesses they believe in. (Steele 14)
Ancient Egypt
Location: On page 8 it says more than 90 percent of Egypt .The result was usually a good summer to be harvested at this time of the year. The egyptians lived on the banks of the Nile river. (Hart 10)
Religion: In the text it says, the Egyptians worshiped hundreds of different gods and goddesses, and sometimes it is difficult to work out who was who. On page 24 it says, " Many of the gods are represented by animals: a baboon might stand for Thoth, god of wisdom, at one temple, and a Moon god named khonsu at another." (Hart 24)
Government: On page 10 the king was not the most powerful and not the important guy in Egypt.He was still king of egypt 94 years later he was 100 years old. (Hart 10)
Art: On page 6, it says early jewelers used semi precious stones from the deserts. Also on page 6 it says, Luxury items like these necklaces show us that before the pharaohs not every labor was needed till the soil or hunt for food. (Hart 6)
Writing: On page 34 it says, Scribes had to be experts in writing hieroglyphs, an elaborate form of picture-writing with about 700 different signs. Also on page 34 it says, hieroglyphs were used on state monuments, templates, tombs, and religious papyri. (Hart 34) Link Title
Architecture: On page 20 it says The first pyramid was first built as the burial place of king Djoser in c.2650 BCE.The king climbed to join the sun. (Hart 20)
