1.23.2.09 - Pulmonary Pharmacology
airway inflammation
constriction
increased resistance
narrowed airways
increased smooth muscle
decreasing inflammation
antihistamines
H1 agonists
glucocorticoids
reduce mucosal oedema
reduce release of inflammatory mediators
relieving airway obstruction
mucolytics
cough supressants
respiratory stimulants
targets with therapeutics
inflammation
irritation and cough
bronchodilations
infection
bronchoconstriction vs bronchodialtion
bronchodilation
Beta-2 adrenoceptors are stimulated which causes a release of norepinephrine and dilation occurs due to increased cAMP
Controlled by the sympathetic nervous system
noradrenaline
bonchoconstriciton
M3 is stimulated to decrease cAMP, increase mucus secretion and contract bronchial smooth muscles
Involves muscarinic receptors
M1 is stimulated to increase mucus secretion
Controlled by the parasympathetic nervous system
acetylcholine
both are autonomic nervous system
NANC
Non-adrenergic non-cholinergic
neurotransmitter of the peripheral nervous system
Can be excitatory or inhibitory
Released at the same time as acetylcholine
Has a slower response than acetylcholine
