Mesopotamia
Location: The author wrote that the ancient Greeks called the area Mesopotamia which means "between the rivers" because it was located between the Tigris and Euphrates. Also the graphic shows that " most of ancient Mesopotamia lay within the borders of modern Iraq." (Steele 6)
government: On page 10, it said "The Sumerians' own name for their territory, ki-en-gir, may have meant "land of the civilized lords." The author wrote Sumerian kings claimed to rule by the will of the gods, therefore they had to perform certain religious duties.

Ancient China
Art: In the text it says unlike the merchants who sold their hand works, artisans were well thought of in china. Also in the text it says the scholars and the peasants farmers and artisans were considered the most important members of society. (Cotterell 56)
Trade/ Commerce: In the text it said Chinese merchants got an enormous fortune from exporting luxury goods such as silk, spices, teas, porcelain, and lacquerware. In China the Mongols took off the restraints put on to the merchants. (Cotterell 58)
Writing: In the text it said that the shang kings used the oracle bones to talk to their ancestors. Ox bones or tortoiseshells were burnt until they cracked. People read the cracks to discover answers about their ancestors. (Cotterell 11)

Ancient India
Location: Around 5,000 years ago the civilization developed along the Indus river. In the text it says "Over time, a vast number of settlements were built on the banks of the Indus River and surrounding areas" This now covers most of modern day Pakistan. (World Studies)
Writing: In the text it says "Over 400 symbols have been uncovered from different locations" Many of these were found on seals and ceramic pots. Some people think the symbols constructed a proper writing system (World Studies)
Religion: The religion of the ancient Aryans is called Brahmanism which is polytheistic. It's also heavily influenced in the later development in Hinduism. The author wrote ¨Both religions have much in common and share many rituals.¨ (World Studies)
Government:In the text it says ¨The Brahmana is the priest and the educated ¨ Also there are the Dalits who are also known as the untouchables they are the lowest members of society. There is the Kshatriya who are the warriors and rulers (World studies)
Architecture/Technology: In the text it says"The advanced architecture and construction techniques of the Indus cities is also shown with impressive dockyards, granaries, warehouses, brick platforms and protective walls." Also the walls were more than likely built to protect them from floods, and outside attackers. This was also very advanced at the time. (World Studies)
