Ancient Civilizations
Mesopotamia
Location: The author wrote that the ancient Greeks called the area Mesopotamia, which means between the rivers because it is located between the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers. Also the graphic shows that most ancients Mesopotamia lay within the borders of modern Iraq. (Steele 6)
Government: In the mesopotamian book the author says that there is only one ruler and they have a lot of power and enjoy great exploits. I know this because in the text it said "Sumerian kings claimed to rule by the will of of the gods and therefore had to perform certain religious duties.(steele 10)
Art
Religion: the author wrote that the mesopotamians were polytheistic. I know this because in the text, it says ¨ The sumerians worshiped many gods and goddesses.¨ which means that they were polytheistic. Also, in the text it states ¨ Later Mesopotamian ss peoples took up or adapted Sumerian gods. sometimes giving them new names. (Steele 14)
Writing: The author wrote that the Mesopotamians used clay to write on and they called it Cuneiforms. In the text it says ”When mesopotamians first settled in villages and town, they used clay tokens to record sales and receipts.” Which shows that they used them. (Steele 12)
Architecture: The author wrote that the agriculture in Mesopotamia was irrigation and ziggurats and that they meant something. In the text, is says ¨Like the ancient pyramids of Central America, ziggurats formed a part of sacred precincts, which were thought to be the earthly dwelling places of the gods.¨ Also in the text it said ¨ The ziggurats themselves had small temples or shrines on top, reached by long stairways.¨ (Steele 24)
Ancient Egypt
Location: Acient egypt was along the Nile River. I know this because in the text, it says ¨ the Egyptians lived on the banks of the Nile River or beside canals extending from it.¨ In the text, it also says ¨ The ancient Egyptians lived on a stip of land on either side of the Nile, where the Nile flood made then land fertile.¨ Both of these pieces say taht they lived along the Nile River. (Hart 8)
Religion: In Ancient Egypt, the religion was polytheism. I know this because in the text, it says " The Egyptians worships hundreds of god and goddesses, and sometimes it is difficult to work out who was who." In the text, it also states " Overall, the Sun god was the dominant deity in Egyptian, although he could take different forms." (Hart 24)
Government: In ancient Egypt, there government had levels. I know this because in the text, it says, The king was not only the most power and important man in Egypt, he was thought to be a god.¨ (Hart 10)
Art: The art that was in Ancient Egypt was making jewelry. I know this because in the text, it says " You can see the glint of gold everywhere in Egyption jewelry- mines between the Nile and the Red Sea coast yielded large quantities of this precious metal." In the text, it also states " This bracelet, made for Prince Nemareth, has a central of design showing the god Horus as a child. (Hart 56)
Architecture: In ancient Egypt, the architecture is Egypt were pyramids. I know this because in the text, it says ¨The pyramids were intended the protect the bodies of the pharaohs buried deep inside them.¨ (Hart 18)
Writing: We know their writing is hieroglyphs. I know this because the text said "Scribes had to be experts in writing hieroglyphs" I also know this because the text said "The king of Egypt was the embodiment of the god Horus".

The author wrote that the art in Mesopotamia is molding things with clay. I know this because on page 28, it says ” They were molding clay into simple pots by the eighth millennium BCE.” In the text, it also said ” Some time before 3500 BCE, they invented the potters wheel. which made pottery production far more efficient.” which tells us that they used pottery alot.(Steele 28
Ancient China
Location: I know this because The cities were enclosed urban communities and they were the middle of government and the power of the authorities were reinforced with town planning. The towns and cities were traditionally built by a grid system and split into sections called wards. Markets were mostly planted along one of the main streets (Cotterell 40)
Art: In the text, it says that China has always been known for their arts and crafts. I know this because in the text, it says China is famous for it's beautiful, high quality ceramics. This proves my answer because it shows that they were know for there arts and crafts. (Cotterell 56)
Writing: I know because the Shang kings used oracle bones to help with important events. In the text it also said that the cracks were read to answer questions to the ancestors. The cracks were burnt until they cracked. (Cotterell 11)
Trade/commerce: In the text, it says that the silk road was used for trade. I know this because it says the silk road took its name from China's most successful export commodity. (Cotterell 58)
Architecture/Technology:I know this because on page 22 it says "The first instrument for monitoring earthquakes was invented in A.D. 130".It would drop balls into the toads mouth and the earthquake was in that direction. (Cotterell 22)
Religion: In the text, it says that Confucius developed a moral outlook. He believed that life should be based on kindness and respect. Confucius was against slavery and human and animal sacrifices. (Conttrel 12)
Government: In the text it says Horse drawn chariots were the form of transport. It also says Metalwork and Chinese writing were starting to be used. There were man different vessels made through each dynasty. ( Cotterell 6)
Ancient India
Writing: In the text it said that one of the most confusing parts of this civilization is that the writing couldn't be understood . Over 400 symbols have been unveiled from different locations. The lack of decipherable texts means that we can gain no real insight into many of the details of Indus society as well as little about its government and politics. (Prentice hall world studies)
Architecture/Technology: The text said that the people that lived in the Indus Valley created well planned and developed cities. many people during this time,people cared a lot about their hygiene.They believed that this was what represented their cities. People during this time mainly got their water from wells. In these cities, they had things in some rooms that would filter the good and bad water. (Prentice hall world studies)
Location: The author wrote that around 5,000 years ago, a civilization developed along the Indus river alluvial plain in South Asia. Over time, a vast number of settlements were built on the banks of the Indus River and surrounding areas. The Indus River Valley covers most of modern day Pakistan, the northwestern region of modern India, and a small portion of Afghanistan. (Prentice hall world studies)
Government: In the textbook it said that the Aryans had a big influence on India today. One thing that the Aryans influenced on India was the building of the caste system. A caste is a social group where people are born and they could not change. (Prentice Hall World Studies)
Religion: In the text said that the religion of the ancient Aryans were polytheistic and it then influenced the development of Hinduism. Both religions have a lot in common. They lived in Ganas, which was made up of many families. (Prentice hall world studies)
