Ancient Civilization
Mesopotamia
Location: In the text it said that mesopotamia once extended into parts of present-day Turkey, Syria and southwestern Iran. On page 6 it said that "most of ancient Mesopotamia lay within the borders of modern of Iraq." (Steele 6)
Writing: In the text it say that writing was later mesopotamians, babylons, and Assyrians. On page 12 it also says "At first they used picture symbols to represent objects such as cattle,grain, or fish. (Steele) 12
Government: In the text it says that that the homeland of the Assyrian people was around the tigris river. One page 40 it also says. "Thiere city began to grow wealthy from trading with Anatolia as early as 200 Bce. " (Steele 40)
Art: In the text says that they molded clay into simple pots by the the eight millennium Bce. On page 28 it also says, "They invented the pottery wheel, which made pottery productions that far more efficient." (Steele 28)
Architecture: In the text it says that the last symbol of Ancient Mesopotamia is the Ziggurats, a massive terraced platform made of brick. On page 26 it says "The word ziggurats is Assyrians and means "hight" or "pinnacle". (Steele 24)
Religion: In the text it says that the Sumerians worship many gods and goddesses. On page 14 it also says "The Sumerians also believed in spirits, goats and demons. (Steele 14)
Ancient Egypt
Location:On page 8 it says that the "Egyptians lived on the banks of the Nile river. It said that "This was "kemet"or the "Black land" named after the rich dark slit (Hart page 8).
Writing:On page 34 it says that Scribes had to be an expert in writing hieroglyphs."It was deliberately kept complicated so that not much people could master it. The writing would be written to left to right and right to left or top to bottom. (Hart 34)
Art: On page 56 it says that "You can see the glint of gold everywhere Egyptian jewelry-mines precious medal". "The gold could be beaten into shape or cast in molds"."Goldsmiths also made patterns using a method called granulation,in which tiny granules of gold were attached to an object by soldering".
Government:On page 12 its says that "The king was not only the most powerful and important man in Egypt-he was thought to be a god". "He was known as a the Pharaoh-a word that derives from a respectful way of referring to the king by describing him as the "great house". (Hart 12)
Religion: On Page 24 it says that gods and goddesses were represented by animals.The baboon might stand for the god "Thoth the god of wisdom at one temple, and a Moon god named Khonsu at another". (Hart page 24)
Architecture:On page 20 it says that the "first Pyramid was built as the burial place of king Djoser". "The Pyramid was supposed to represent a gigantic stairway for the king to climb to join the sun god in the sky".(Hart page 20)
Ancient India
Location:In the text it says many people wanted to live near the Indus River because of the many resources like water and fertile land.
A lot of people settled there and they discovered ancient cities. It is surrounded by mountains, ocean,and desert.

Writing: From the text it says that the writing can't be deciphered. No one really knows what it says. Many of these symbols are located on the seals, pots, and other materials. We can't know a lot about the Indus society because we don't really understand what they wrote.

Architecture/Technology:In the text it says the people cared a lot about hygiene. They could get water from wells, and they had more advanced systems for waste water. They built strong walls for protection from floods and outside attacks. They did a good job in planning for this city.

Government:In the text it says the aryans were led by a king. The time of the Aryans were made up of three empires. Maurya,Gupta, and mughal. The maurya empire was divided into four provinces.Each province was ruled by a person appointed by the king called a kumara.

Religion: In the text it says The religion of the Aryans was called Brahmanism. Brahmanism was polytheistic which means they believed in many gods. Brahmanism came from a similar religion called Hinduism.

Ancient China
Commerce/Trade: When the Mongol emperors ruled China they let people trade freely. The silk road was the way people took to trade with other people. They would trade silk,spices,teas, and other things. During this time it was really good for the merchants,(Cotherell 58)

Architecture/Technology:China had many great inventions.Paper and printing,gunpowder,and inventions in agriculture were just a few areas in which China led the way.
Gardens were important because they thought that they brought peace and tranquility.Many cities had parks,bridges, and pavilions.(Cotherell 22)

Government:China is one of the oldest civilizations. In 221 Bc the first empire was formed by a group called the Qin and later became China. Throughout history, China was ruled by powerful families called dynasties.(Cotherell 16)

Writing: ON page 11 said the shang kings used oracle bones to talk with their ancestors. The oracle bones were burnt until they cracked.The questions were written on tortoiseshells or ox bones (Cotherell 11)

Art: The three perfections were considered to be the greatest accomplishment in art. The three perfections are poetry,painting, and calligraphy.The three things were often found in paintings.(Cotherell 30).
