-
Oboe
Origin: France
The body of the oboe is typically made from a type of wood called grenadilla, although some oboes may also be made from other types of wood. The keys and other metal components are usually made from materials like brass or silver. The reed, which is the small piece that the player blows into to produce sound, is crafted from a special type of cane.
The oboe produces sound when a musician blows air into it and vibrates a tiny, thin piece of wood called a reed. When the player blows air through a small opening in the reed, it causes the reed to vibrate very quickly. These vibrations create sound waves, which travel through the oboe's body and out through its bell, producing the musical notes we hear.
