CELL DIVISION
What is a cell division
Cell division is the process by which a parent cell divides into two daughter cells. Cell division usually occurs as part of a larger cell cycle in which the cell grows and replicates its chromosome(s) before dividing.
The two types
-
Miosis: A process of cell division, characteristic of reproductive cells, in which the number of chromosomes is halved.
Differences between Mitosis and miosis: Mitosis produces two genetically identical “daughter” cells from a single “parent” cell, whereas meiosis produces cells that are genetically unique from the parent and contain only half as much DNA. Most cells in the body regularly go through mitosis, but some do so more often than others.
