continuiation of life of a living organism at any given time by producing offspring
Two types of reproduction
Sexual
Two gametes/sex cells fuse together to form a zygote/fertilised cell
Involves two parents
E.g male gamete + female gamete= zygote [FERTILISATION]
Asexual
Does not involve fusion of gametes
Involves only one parent
1 cell/ 2 identical daughter cells FISSION]
1 cell splits- forms mother cell and daughter cell. Mother cell is bigger than daughter cell [BUDDING]
MALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM
Functions
Produce, store and transport sperms
Discharge sperms to the female reproductive system
Produce and secrete male sex hormones called testosterone
Parts and functions
Penis- organ that desposits semen containing sperms in a woman's vagina during sexual intercourse
Urethra- Carries urine and semen to the outside of the body at different times

Scrotum- holds testes outside the body
Sperm- head middle piece and tail
can move on its own with the help of the tail
Nucleus in the head
Chromosomes-23
small size
released in millions in each ejaculation
FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM
Functions
produces mature eggs for reproduction
Produces female sex hormones called oestrogen and progesterone
Parts and functions
Ovary- Produces mature eggs and female sex hormones
Fallopian tubes- allows fertilisation to take place
Uterus- allows implantation of embryo for growth and development
Cervix- a narrow opening which widens during childbirth
Vagina- a muscular organ where sperms are deposited
Egg- a spherical cell
cannot move on it own
Nucleus is in the cell
Chromosomes-23
Big size
Released one in each month
