Natural Hazard Risk - Coggle Diagram
Natural Hazard Risk
-
-
-
Location
-
Tropical Storms
Only found where the sea has a temperature of 27c, so many areas at no risk. However, this area is increasing due to climate change
Wildfires
Increasing risk due to climate change, can be found anywhere with significant vegetation cover.
Magnitude of Hazard
-
However, even a low magnitude hazard in a very poor country can have significant impacts.
Population Density
-
This is often because there are simply more people in danger and housing tends to be built in high rise blocks which could collapse in the event of some hazard.
Size of Population
If the population growth rate is very high then there is generally more vulnerability to hazard events.
This is linked to the idea that the highest growth rates are often found in the lowest income countries.
Rock Type
If the rock is soft then in an EQ then there will be greater ground shaking as a result of amplification.
If the rock is impermeable, then water will reman in the soil. This will increase the risk of liquefaction. This is where the soil behaves like a liquid under shaking.
