After this reading, I can explain the intention of using the culture industry in film. The intention is to produce a standardized expectation of life, creating standard products and even standard people. We go into a film expecting it to look like real life, and it does slightly, creating a perception that the movie really did reflect our life back to us and, in turn, our lives influence the films. However, the films are made to promote consumerism, hegemonic practices, and the ideas of the ruling class, further romanticizing the experience of the poor. The reading also left me with a question about this: if we are aware that films are made like this intentionally, will they lose that effect? Also, in what other types of media is the culture industry affecting?
