In this case the subject is replaced by It or There that is why it is call Impersonal It.

The gerund. The base form of the verb + ing .it can be gerund or present participle.

There is and there are means “hay”. “There is” is used for singular and “there are” is
used for plural.
Examples: There are two big Evergreen containers in the Canal now.
There is a job in the Canal Zone.
