Main Idea
Dad was worried what happen to the Weavers would happen to their family.
Grandma-down-the-hill thought the kids should be in school.
Dad took up preaching against milk.
Dad is religious. (Maybe not very stable)
Grandma wanted Tara to runaway to Arizona and go to school.
How to solve problem
the family had to prepare for the days of abomination by preparing canned foods and packing bags with guns and ammo so the feds could not get to them like they did the Weavers.
Grandma jammed her fridge full milk.

CHAPTER 13
MAIN PROBLEM
Shawn does not like how Tara is acting in town, or that she is wearing make up. Calls her a slut and a whore for wearing make up.
The Twin Towers fell.
Shawn heard Sadie was going to dinner with Charlie so Shawn drove around town looking for them because he was gonna "give Charlie a new face'' with his pistol.
MAIN IDEA
Mom tried to get Shawn off of Tara when he wakes her up with his hands on her neck. He grabs her by the hair to make her stand up. He then takes her arms behind her like the last time. Tyler walks in as Shawn is hurting Tara. He tells her to take his car and go far. Shawn shows up in the middle of the night with a pearl necklace to apologize. Tyler tries to talk Tara into going to school.
Shawn is temperamental and bipolar like the dad. One minute he's mad and next he is generously assisting Tara learn how to properly install a lock on her door to keep him from coming inside.

main problem
-Shawn shows Tara some of the same bossy attitude and she dumps a glass of water over her head. Shawn becomes infuriated with her and physically hurts her until she apologizes.
Shawn starts calling Sadie fisheyes.
Shawn didn’t help Sadie as much as he did Tara when teaching her how to ride Apollo.
Shawn starts making Sadie cry if she shows attention to other people.
“I have the perfect punishment, I simply won’t see her. All I have to do is not see her, and she will suffer.”

main idea
-Shawn took Tara to auditions and auditioned himself.
-They met Sadie who has a crush on Shawn. Shawn is sometimes flirtatious with her but is also cruel.
-Tony took a loan to buy his own semi and trailer but in order to make payments he has to keep truck on the road.
-Tonys' wife went to the hospital and was put on bedrest so Tony couldn't drive and Shawn and Tara took his route for him for a week or two.
-Shawn begins to be physiologically messing with Sadie.
-Shawn begins to hurt and be physically abusive to Tara
CHAPTER 19
IN THE BEGINING
PROBLEM AND SOLUTION
-Tara saw Charles at a play and started hanging out with him pretty often.
-Tara went to the store to buy women's jeans and shirts so she could stop wearing the men's clothes she has been wearing.
-Tara felt like she only wanted the womens clothes so she could show her body off.
-Tara and Charles went to his house to watch a movie and on the way he tried to hold her hand 2 time and she flinched away from him both times.
-Charles wanted to sit next to her during the movie and she pulled away so much he moved to the floor for the movie.
-Tara said Charles awakened a word that described her that "whore"

MAIN IDEA
-Tara finished BYU for the semester and needed a job so she went to Stokes (the grocery store).
-Gene told Tara she needed to work at the junkyard to help him, she told him no but then mom told Tara if she didn't help her dad then she had to move out.
Tara came home from a day of work at Stokes to her clothes on the front yard soaking wet from the rains.
CHAPTER 25 THE WORK OF SULPHUR

Main problem
Grandpa-down-the-hill thrown off of his horse because the horse was scared of snakes. He came crawling back home.
Grandma found him scratching t the door, when she opened the door Grandpa was laying down with his brain dripping out of his head.
Dad did not drain the the fuel before he sparked the torch and he caught on fire. He crawled his way back to the house where where Kylie brought him inside.
Mom wanted to go the the hospital but Dad insisted he'd rather die then see a doctor.

Grandma went to find the white mare. She walked to the mountain but found her tied to a fence behind the corral, tethered with a intricate knot that nobody used except her father, Lot.
Mom and other family members used salve, oils, and cut away at the dead skin.
Mom tried to get him strong medicine and he declined.

A Brawling Woman in a Wide House

PROBLEM SOLVING
-Dad spends lots of time in the bed ill. Dad is more prone to sicknesses after being burned.
-Mom and Dad fight and argue after mom tells dad to write the thank you notes and he refuses. He tells her its womans work, he doesn't know of any man that writes notes. She told him either he wrote them or no one would.
-Mom is finally sticking up for herself by telling dad that he needs to start doing the husbands work if that is how he feels about her.
-Mom is the bread winner and has been for 10 years.
Mom is finally taking up for herself.
-Tara finds mom in the bathroom crying after a fight with dad.
-Mom refused to cook breakfast for dad so he was in the kitchen attempting to make pancakes and failing.
MAIN IDEA
-Grandma down the hill losing battle to cancer. Mom wrote Tara to tell her to come home since she didn't think Grandma would make it.
-Drew takes Tara to her parent's house and finds a bunch of ladies inside mixing oils and tinctures while taking calls from people with questions about their illnesses.
-Drew complimented Dad on the oil business and Dad was very proud.
-Grandma down the hill died.
-Dad gives speech at her funeral but only mentions his mom 2 times but spoke for 20 minutes.
-Dad refuses to write thank you notes. Says that is a womans job.
