Five Pillars

Daily prayers (Salat)
Muslims must pray five times a day, not necessarily going to a mosque, but they must pray pointing to Mecca.
Alms Giving (Zakat)
Muslims must share their wealth with the ones who need it, meaning the less fourtunate wmong their near community.
Fasting (Saum)
During Rammadan, a whole month considered holy which is the ninth month on the islamic calendar, every muslim must fast from dawn till dusk. (There are exeptions, for the elder, sick or pregnant.)
Pilgrimmage (Hajj)
Every person must travel to Mecca, at least once in their lives and walk around the holy sites.
Two branches
Shiites
They believed that only Allah has the right to choose religious leaders and that, therefore, only the direct descendants of Muhammed should hold this leadership.
Sunniten
They hold the main characteristics of islam, they follow the five pillars, and recognize everything said in the Qu'ran. They believe that Muhammed had no heir and that any religious leader should be elected by vote.
What is it?
It is a monotheist religion which bases its beliefs in the Qur'an, and on the last prophet preaches' Muhammed.
It was originated in Mecca and Medina, which is now Saudi Arabia
Islam recognizes Cristian figures like Jesus, but as a prophet not as the messiah. They also recognize Moses and Abraham.
