Natural Science
Activity 2: A collage activity, asking children to find pictures and information on different insects.
Concept 2: Definition of insects - a small animal that has a set of wings, an antenna and 3 sets of legs. Although not all insects have wings.
-
-
Concept 1: Not all insects are the same, they have different characteristics, different appearances, different colours and they come in all shapes and sizes.
Activity 3: Life cycle of an insect, showing the different stages of an insect from birth to adulthood.
Activity 1: Plan an insect hunt activity, where children get the opportunity to discover different types of insects.
Concept 3: Insect reproduction involves some insects laying eggs. After some time the eggs hatch and baby insects are born.
-
Technology
Activity 2: The children will cut out pictures of insects and sort them into the correct size category based on the size of the insect.
-
-
Activity 3: The learners will use recycled materials to create an insect prosthetic and use it on themselves. Example, a pair of wings or a pair of antennas.
Concept 1: It's crucial to observe and draw an insect in detail as it makes it easier to identify what type of insect is being drawn.
Concept 3: Every body part on an insect has a function, without it won't be able to function like normal.
Activity 1: The learners will go outside and discover insects and observe how the insects look and be able to draw them.
-

Concept 1: Characteristics help to differentiate between insects and their abilities. But ever insect has 3 body segments and don't have a back bone.
Activity 3: Design a card activity, where 1 card shows an insect and another card shows how the insect can harm us. Example, a picture of a bee on a card and a picture of a bee sting on another card.
Activity 1: Learners build an insect of their choosing using recycled materials and label the parts as a class.
Concept 3: Bees and wasps are known for their life threatening stings. Certain worms and insects destroy crops and some mosquitoes can transfer diseases when bitten such as Malaria.
-
Concept 2: Some insects are harmful to us and the effects can be mild or strong. Example, some people are allergic to bee stings.
