Social Science
How insects help us
Pollination (help us to pollinate flowers) - Natural material (silk worms produce silk to make clothing) - Products (we get beeswax from bees for healthcare) (Smithsonian Institution, 1996).
Food (they are a source of food the humans and other animals) Ecosystem balance (they help to balance the eco system) (Smithsonian Institution, 1996).
Activity: Watch a Youtube Video on how insects help us (The Children's hands-on museum of Tuscoloosa, 2020).

How we care for insects
Activity: Class Discussion - Have an open discussion (Inquiry-based) on how we can help to look after insects in our school and homes.
Planting trees and plants (they live in trees ad plants and feed off them) Safe removal of insects (Don't always swat or squash insects, instead release them back into nature safely) (Oxford University Musuem of Natural History, n.d.)
Soil nutrition ( Make sure your soil is nourished - insects live inside soils and need the nutrients to survive) Don't use harmful pesticides (Use a pesticide that isn't harm to humans or other helpful insects such as earthworms and bees) (Oxford University Musuem of Natural History, n.d.)
Natural Science
Different insects
Crawling (insects that crawl) Flying (insects that fly) Digging (insects that dig into the ground) Colour (colourful and dull insects) (Gaeng, 2023)
Insects that can harm us (stingers, bites, venom) Shapes (butterflies, flies, crickets, bees) (Doring Kindersley Limited, 2023)
Activity: Identification - Give learns worksheets where there a pictures of different types of insects, each learners must name the insect and identify if they are flying or crawling insects.
Parts of an insect
Activity: Observation and Discussion - The learners have to go seek 2 or 3 different insects, they then have to observe their bodies and body parts and have a group discussion with their classmates on what they found (shapes of bodies, length of legs , colours must be included in the discussion)
Activity: Watch a video on body part of the insects (Citak, 2020)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZW8BxZlv8E
Wings (Insects with wings and no wings) Legs (how many legs on each insect) Antennas (Uses for antennas) Stingers (uses for stingers and which insects have them) (Mishra, 2023)
Technology
Where insects live
Uses for the habitat (to hide away from predators, to protect their babies, to lay eggs, to store food, to keep warm during winter and very hot days, during bad weather conditions)
Different habitats (Shapes, sizes, where they are found) Habitats for each type of insect (flying insects, crawling insects, bees, earthworms, ants, caterpillars)
Activity: Building a Habitat - Learners are divided into groups of 3 or 4 and are told that the school needs have habitats for insects for the upcoming spring season. Learners are required to make any kind of insect habitat and put it to the test.
Observing and drawing an insect
Activity: Drawing and labelling the insect they are have chosen, based on their research and observation of the insect they have chosen to to draw while labelling and naming their drawing.
Drawing discussion (discuss what they have found and which insects they are going to draw and which parts of that insect they need to include)
Observation and collecting (research the bodies types, shapes and sizes of insects, using books and going outside)
